Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
